Rep. Louie Gohmert lauds former President Bush as man of integrity, patriot

TYLER, Texas (KETK) - Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) has joined many other Texas officials in paying tribute to former President George H.W. Bush, who died November 30 at the age of 94.

In a statement issued by his office, Rep,. Gohmert lauded the 41st president as a man who "served this nation with dignity and strength" and who "displayed integrity in both his public and private life."

The statement in full reads:

"President George H.W. Bush served this nation with dignity and strength. Not only was he a decorated war hero at such a young age, he was a respected national leader who displayed integrity in both his public and private life. He was a patriot who dedicated his life protecting, preserving, perpetuating, and improving America.

It will be an honor to represent east Texans at his funeral at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday. My heartfelt prayers and condolences go out to the Bush family as they mourn the loss of a devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. The United States will forever be impacted by his relentless lifetime of service."

Bush will lie in state in the U.S. Capitol rotunda Wednesday. He will be buried in College Station, Texas, behind the site of the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum, alongside his wife, Barbara, and their daughter, Robin, who died of leukemia at the age of 3.

Gov. Greg Abbott has declared Wednesday, December 5, an official Day of Mourning in Texas.
