A Republican congressman from Texas praised President Donald Trump for his action towards ending the immigration crisis taking place at the U.S.-Mexico border, proclaiming that the president’s proposed border wall would help Mexico and other countries in Central and South America.

While giving an interview on Fox News’ “Lou Dobbs Tonight” on Monday, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) — who serves on the powerful House Judiciary Committee — was pressed for his thoughts on the crisis taking place at the southern border.

Gohmert responded by lauding Trump for his proposed border wall, praising the plan as the “most single compassionate thing” that the country could do to help Mexico and the countries in Central and South America where thousands of migrants are leaving to try and enter the U.S.

“[The president’s] detractors can say what they want to, but what President Trump is doing in trying to build a wall where we need it, trying to secure the border, is the most single compassionate thing we can do for the people of Mexico and south of Mexico.”

“The reason they’re not a top ten economy is because of corruption,” continued the Texas Republican. “And that comes from the drug cartels and that comes from the tens of billions of dollars that go flowing into the drug cartels every year.”

Gohmert went on to proclaim that Trump was “going to make Mexico a better place whether they like it or not” by taking care of the drug cartels plaguing the nation and that the solution begins with “building a wall where we need it.”

“Thank God for Donald Trump,” Gohmert added.

Gohmert’s comments came the same day that Trump held a rally for Fred Keller — the Republican nominee in the special election for Pennsylvania’s 12th District — in Montoursville, Pennsylvania, where he invited a man wearing a brick wall-themed suit on stage with him while talking about the border.

As IJR Red noted, the president also took aim at 2020 Democratic primary candidate and former Vice President Joe Biden during the rally, slamming him and former President Barack Obama for their “eight long years” of poor foreign policy and proclaiming that “they should be ashamed of themselves.”
