Rep. Gohmert's Memorial Day 2022 Statement
Washington, May 30, 2022
In honor of Memorial Day, Rep. Louie Gohmert (TX-01) issued the following statement:
"There is no question that due to our freedom and opportunities, the United States is the greatest country in history. This extraordinary blessing has only been achieved because generations of brave patriots laid down their lives to defend and preserve the unique liberties our Founding Fathers enshrined for us in our magnificent Constitution.
"This Memorial Day marks our nation’s first since 13 brave U.S. servicemembers were killed during a bombing at the Kabul airport after being left surrounded by the Taliban during the shamefully orchestrated evacuation of American troops from the region. Let us never forget these warriors: Sgt. Johanny Rosario Pichardo, Sgt. Nicole L. Gee, Staff Sgt. Darin T. Hoover, Cpl. Hunter Lopez, Cpl. Daegan W. Page, Cpl. Humberto A. Sanchez, Lance Cpl. David L. Espinoza, Lance Cpl. Jared M. Schmitz, Lance Cpl. Rylee J. McCollum, Lance Cpl. Dylan R. Merola, Lance Cpl. Kareem M. Nikoui, Navy Corpsman Maxton W. Soviak and Staff Sgt. Ryan C. Knauss, along with all who sacrificed their lives for us.
"Our country is forever indebted to the many heroes who gave their lives to selflessly defend our nation and way of life as represented by our flag. May each and every American understand the magnitude of this day, thank the families of those who gave all, and thank God for all those who protected our freedom and way of life. May God Bless our Gold Star Families as they deal with the gaping void left by their loved one’s sacrifice."
